This playful and bright hall bathroom took inspiration from flowing rivers and rays of light to transform a high-traffic area of the client’s home. Last touched in the 1990s, the previously dreary bathroom had a reasonable layout and good light, but zero character. The homeowners were tired of the monotone drab and were ready to have some fun with this space.
We accentuated the high ceilings and huge skylight with aloe green tiles installed in a vertical pattern, all the way to the ceiling. The variability and reflectivity of the green tiles make the back wall feel almost like a running river. We continued the nature-inspired theme with multi-colored river-rocks on the floor, that extend beneath the furniture-legged vanity made of teak wood.
We opted against enclosing the shower stall with a glass door, as that would make accessing the shower controls more burdensome near the toilet bowl, and would restrict the horizontal space within the shower. Instead, we chose an extra-long, linen shower curtain to again accentuate the ceiling height, and to soften the harder elements in the room.
